On Sunday, July 27th, I am cycling in the Capilano Volkswagen Cypress Challenge presented by Glotman Simpson Cycling, raising awareness and funds for pancreatic cancer research and care at BC Cancer.
Why I'm Riding:
Working in BC Cancers Hereditary Cancer Program, I get a glimpse at the toll cancer takes on individuals, families, and entire communities. Its hopeful work - but were still up against a cancer that progresses quickly, is difficult to detect, and remains resistant to treatment.
Each year, more than 800 people in BC are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Of those, only about 10% (around 80 people of that 800) will survive five years after diagnosis. Though its the 10th most common cancer, its the 4th leading cause of cancer death in Canada. Currently, pacnreatic cancer is projected to become the second leading cause of cancer deaths by 2030.
Since 2008, the Cypress Challenge has raised over $5.2 million to support research and care for people facing this devastating disease. Every donation goes toward valuable research forward; toward earlier detection, better treatments, and more time for the people we care for.
Please consider making a donation on my page. I would love to receive a message from you as to your why if you do.
Thank you,
Rebecca
