On July 27th, I'm biking in the Cypress Challenge with my awesome GlobalRelay colleagues, to support pancreatic cancer research at BC Cancer.

Here are the 2 reasons why I'm participating:

1. Help Fund Research
Pancreatic cancer is the 4th deadliest cancer and on track to become the 2nd by 2030 without new treatments. It's hard to detect early, which makes awareness and research critical.

2. Inspire Others to Get Moving

I'm also riding to inspire friends and family to fight back against the couch! You dont need a perfect routine, just get moving, however you can.

Here are some tips and facts to get you started:

  • Join a gym or find a coach, since willpower alone isnt enough to build momentum. Structure and support make all the difference. I go to Anytime Finess @Fleetwood (read more about them below).
  • Racquet sports (like tennis, pickleball, ping pong, badminton, squash, etc) have been linked to the longest life expectancy gains compared to any other type of exercise.
  • Doing just 10 bodyweight squats every 45 minutes may be more effective than a 30-minute daily walk for managing blood sugar especially if youre sitting most of the day.
  • Short kettlebell workouts can double-dip as cardio & core training great bang for your time!
  • And ofcourse, biking and swimming are fantastic, low impact activities that builds cardiovascular fitness, strengthens the legs and core, and can even improve your mood and mental health!
