July 1, 2023 my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. A few days later I registered for the pancreatic cancer ride and our family was overwhelmed with how compassionate this community is. She passed away July 27th and 2 days later I climbed in honour of her.
This year I'm riding to help those who have been affected by this terrible disease. I'm riding to ensure people have access to genetic testing. I'm riding to ensure people have access to rapid treatment. I'm riding to ensure scientists and doctors that work so hard in our province to fight this disease can continue to do their amazing research in BC. I'm riding to raise money that I know will stay in our province and help those who need it most. I'm riding for the big hug I will get at the finish line from all the other riders who have been affected by pancreatic cancer. Most importantly I'm riding for my beautiful mom, who was robbed of her chance to say goodbye.
