For the fifth year in a row, Im taking on a powerful challenge with my team, Velogrit, to raise money for a cause close to our hearts. This year, were proud to be supporting BC Cancer, with a specific focus on pancreatic cancer research and care.
Were participating in the Cypress Challengean event designed to bring awareness and critical funding to one of the toughest cancers to detect and treat.
But as is tradition with Velogrit, we dont stop at the expected.
To honour the challenge faced by those battling cancer, our team is pushing further:
Well be taking on The Triple Crown and then some.
That means riding up:
-
Cypress
-
Grouse
-
Seymour
and continuing on to our finish line in Port Moody.
Altogether, its over 115 km and 2,500 metres of climbing in a single day.
We expect this to be tough.
But we also know: cancer is much, much tougher.
Please consider supporting our ride and donating to BC Cancer. Every dollar helps bring us closer to better treatments, earlier detection, and ultimately, a cure.
This year, more than 800 British Columbians will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Its projected that only 10 per cent (or 80 of those people diagnosed) will live five years.
Pancreatic cancer is difficult to detect at an early stage and is often resistant to treatment. Although it is the tenth most common cancer in Canada, it is the fourth leading cause of cancer death.
Unless more effective treatment strategies are found, pancreatic cancer in Canada is projected to become the second leading cause of cancer death by 2030.
We need to act now.
Since 2008, Cypress Challenge has raised over $5.2 million and its thanks to the generosity of community members like you. Together, we can drive innovations in research and enhance care to benefit each person facing this disease.
With your help, BC Cancer can continue its vital work to break down this deadly disease.
Please consider making a donation.
