X.comDear Friends - on Sunday, July 27th, I am cycling in the Capilano Volkswagen Cypress Challenge presented by GlotmanSimpson Cycling, raising awareness and funds for pancreatic cancer research and care at BC Cancer. This event has been running for 17 years and to date has raised over $5.2 million.
As many of you will know pancreatic cancer can be a particularily deadly disease. This year, more than 800 British Columbians will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and its projected that only 10 per cent (or 80 of those people diagnosed) will live five years. Those statistics are frightening to me! It is a difficult cancer to detect at an early stage and is often resistant to treatment. Although it is the tenth most common cancer in Canada, it is the fourth leading cause of cancer death.
Unless more effective treatment strategies are found, pancreatic cancer in Canada is projected to become the second leading cause of cancer death by 2030.
Since 2019, the KPU Eagles - Soar Over Cancer team through the Tour de Cure fund raising ride has raised over 100,000. for cancer research. Sadly for us, since it was such a positive and powerful experience, the event has been cancelled however we have pivoted and re-brand as KPU Eagles - Soar Over Cancer 2.0 This will be our 1st year taking on the Cyrpess Challenge and we hope you will join this cause and consider supporting our team once again!
